When maintaining your precision and/or tension levelers there are four areas that must be addressed:

As your tension and precision leveler maintenance contractor I will design a predictive and preventive maintenance schedule program along with a reconditioning procedure on back-up roller bearings used in precision levelers. This procedure alone eliminates the necessity of lubricating while in the machine. I have reconditioned over 3,500 bearings with a 0% failure rate while in machine. This is based on running 24/7 with an annual schedule change out. On average a bearing can be reconditioned up to four times and generally the cost of reconditioning is approximately 25% that of a new bearing as most often suggested by the manufacturer.
In addition, we have developed a proven procedure for locating center back-up rolls parallel to intermediate rolls on Herr-Voss modified 6-HI tension levelers. This procedure eliminates premature roll and bearing failure that results in streaks on the sheet surface. This procedure also incorporates a predictive and preventive maintenance schedule program that has resulted in running as much as 400 million lbs of aluminum sheet on a single set of rolls.
Lastly, for years I have successfully re-built precision leveler drive gearboxes at a company cost between $4,000 and $6,000 when the procedure performed by the manufacturer now costs you around $27,000 creating a savings to your company of over $20,000 each time this has to be done.
